Work is underway on the renovation of the S22 Frombork-Braniewo road
The modernized section is 10 km long and also includes two junctions: the Frombork Junction and the Braniewo Południe Junction. The project is being implemented on behalf of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways [GDDKiA]. Watch the video!
We started the works in August last year and so far we have completed 50% of the scope, including a straight section between the junctions. We are currently focusing on the second stage of works at the Braniewo Junction, which we plan to complete by the end of August. The next two months will be devoted to the renovation of the Frombork Junction, also carried out in two stages. We intend to complete the entire work by the end of October.
The renovation includes the replacement of the wearing course along the entire section and local repairs of the substructure. In addition, we carry out accompanying works, such as renovation of roadsides, repair of transverse cracks, replacement of expansion joints on bridge structures, reinforcement of the surface with mesh and replacement of paving.
At the very end, it is worth mentioning the areas where the renovation is taking place, they were extremely important in the context of the history of the last century. The S22 road, although it is located in the former Prussia, was supposed to serve as a corridor connecting Berlin with Königsberg in the 1930s. This is one of the historical factors that contributed to the outbreak of World War II.
